Stevens College Electronics Technology Program Seeks Graduate Profiles

by Bruce Schreiner '79, Sophomore Instructor

The amount of students entering the Electronics Technology program has decreased from the full complement of 25 of a couple years ago even though job opportunities are flourishing. There are many theories as to the decline but it is definitely a national trend. We could use the assistance of any interested graduates of Stevens in recruiting potential students but at this point we are appealing specifically to electronics technology graduates working in the field. Our idea is to establish a graduate profile that would spur interest in potential student prospects. The profile would document your job and company with pictures and a short segment of the details of your job. The idea is to create a profile book to keep in the electronics technology lab for prospective student and parent perusal, a website section to add to the Stevens official website (www.stevenscollege.edu), and a graduate profile DVD/CD.

Gather your information and send via e-mail in electronic format or via mail on a CD to Bruce Schreiner (schreiner@stevenscollege.edu) at 750 East King Street, Lancaster, PA 17602. You may call with questions (717-299-7786) on what format to use but basically we can deal with almost any format of picture or text.

Your profile should contain a picture of yourself in the workplace near a particularly impressive piece of technology or equipment. Also, a picture of your company's location/building would complete the visuals. You should include your name, your job title, year of graduation from Stevens, other educational degrees you obtained, the name and address of your company, the phone contact for employment opportunities (if appropriate), a list of special skills or equipment used in your job, a one paragraph day-in-your-life description of what you do on the job, types of things you do and tools/test equipment that you use, and travel required by your job, and special training beyond Stevens that you needed, a list of electronics-related jobs available at your company, and any other things you may find useful to people looking at a career in the electronics-related fields. We will provide editing to fit into a standardized format. Please use your digital camera and involve your company when possible as these visuals are important!

Thanks in advance for your help as we look to develop an impressive catalogue of electronics technology jobs that our graduates have held. I am also sure that alumni will enjoy reviewing the catalog during open house and visitation days! Perhaps a DVD purchase will take place in the future if the catalog grows to a significant number.
