Enrollment Policy

Stevens College provides educational opportunity and life experiences to individuals who have the intent, desire, and ability to seek advanced technical education. Technical courses of study are offered only at an associate's degree level.

Since each technical area requires different abilities, admissions standards vary from program to program. For example, applicants for the Electronics Technology program are expected to have a more extensive background in mathematics than applicants for Collision Repair Technology or Plumbing. Given an excess of qualified applicants for many programs, meeting the minimum requirements will often not be sufficient for admission. In that case, the most financially deserving and academically best prepared of the applicants will be selected. Others will be placed on a waiting list.

At a minimum, applicants must have a high school diploma or its equivalent. Questions regarding the admissions standards of a specific technical program should be directed to the Admission's Office.

Stevens reserves the right to deny admission or readmission to any individual if, in the opinion of the College authorities, such is not in the best interest of the student or the College.

Admission is offered without regard to age, sex, handicap, race, religion, creed, national origin, veteran status, or political affiliation. All applicants, however, must be residents of Pennsylvania.

Selection of Students

The following represents a priority listing of the selection criteria for admissions to Stevens:

  • Family status (orphans given preference)
  • Economic status
  • Academic achievement
  • Educational Assessment scores
  • Number of applicants for the program
  • Date application is received

Enrollment Procedure

1. When completed, return the application with the nonrefundable application fee to the above address. There is no deadline for receipt of applications; however, applications are considered in the order received. Offers for admission begin on October 15. Applicants who qualify for a Thaddeus Stevens Legacy Award and who meet our admissions standards will be given preference.

2. Request that your high school guidance office forward a copy of your transcript to Stevens beginning with ninth grade. This transcript should reflect class standing, cumulative grade point average, and any standardized test scores. A student who has a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) at the end of the junior year may submit a transcript for grades 9-11 and have his/her application reviewed based on this information. All other applicants should submit a transcript that includes at least one marking period from the senior year. Proof of graduation from an accredited high school must be on file prior to a student starting the semester. If a student graduated from high school and attended a post-secondary institution, a transcript from the postsecondary institution should be forwarded to Stevens also.

3. Take the Educational Assessment in the following areas: mathematics, reading, and writing skills. Notification of these test sites and dates will be sent to applicants. Individuals with a bachelor's degree are exempt from the Educational Assessment.

Deadlines

Applications will be accepted at any time. Offers of admission will begin on October 15th of each year and continue from that date as application reviews are completed. An admission deposit must be received within 45 days after the offer of admission. A $25 non-refundable fee, check or money order made payable to Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, must accompany your application.
